Mark recently premiered his symphonic work Sound of Light at the Brahms Saal of the Musikverein in Vienna. Inspired by the aurora borealis, the piece unfolded as a hybrid of orchestral writing and experimental, visually driven synthesis. Broadcast live worldwide, the premiere marked the culmination of a two-month creative journey that traced a path from deep within the Arctic Circle through Cambridge and London, before arriving in Vienna.

This instinctive pull toward experimentation — between genres, technologies, and art forms — has been a defining thread throughout Mark’s career. His work consistently occupies the space where classical form, contemporary sound design, and narrative intent intersect.

That sensibility was forged through an unusually broad creative trajectory: from record producer and in-house writer for Jive Records, to recording artist signed to Heavenly / EMI, and ultimately into film composition. Each phase has fed into a musical language grounded in composition, but open to wonder, visceral texture, and disruption.

Most recently, Mark completed the score for Darren Lynn Bousman’s upcoming Paramount feature Twisted, starring 2x Oscar-nominated Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond, Gladiator), Neal McDonough (Yellowstone, Minority Report), and Lauren LaVera (Terrifier series), scheduled for release in February 2026.

Earlier work includes the original score for Snatch, a ten-part television series for Sony Pictures based on Guy Ritchie’s film, starring Rupert Grint and Dougray Scott. He also composed the music for St. Agatha, a female-driven “nunsploitation” horror thriller directed by Bousman and starring Carolyn Hennesy (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines), which has received strong critical response and secured worldwide distribution.

Additional feature credits include Bousman’s tropical horror Death of Me (Luke Hemsworth, Maggie Q), Dark Tide (Halle Berry, Olivier Martinez), Dead Man Running (50 Cent, Brenda Blethyn), and The Devil You Know (Rosamund Pike, Jennifer Lawrence, Lena Olin).

The Story...

Mark’s relationship with music began early. After starting piano at the age of four, he developed a fascination not only with composition but with synthesis and sound itself. As a teenager, he worked his way into the then-flourishing creative engine of Battery Studios and Jive Records, initially as an assistant before evolving into a programmer, producer, and composer. Immersed in a culture of innovation, he contributed to projects alongside artists such as Boogie Down Productions, A Tribe Called Quest, Womack & Womack, and a broad spectrum of pioneering soul, hip-hop, and dance acts. By the age of twenty-three, he had co-written on multiple gold-selling albums across the UK, Europe, and the United States.

Having spent time in Africa as a child, Mark later returned when invited to record and mix concerts across Nigeria. Drawn by the scale and immediacy of the work, he spent several years recording live festivals and collaborating with artists including Fela Kuti at the Shrine, producing live albums with Femi Kuti, King Sunny Adé, and other internationally revered musicians. After a period that included brief hospitalisation with severe illness, he stepped back from his African adventures to refocus on writing and production.

He subsequently became Musical Director for Nicolette and later the close creative collaborator of Goldie, contributing to three albums including the gold-selling Saturnz Return and Mother. These projects featured collaborations with David Bowie, Noel Gallagher, and KRS-One, and were performed extensively at festivals worldwide. The work culminated in a 46-city U.S. arena tour with Jane’s Addiction on their Relapse tour, documented in the film Three Days, which went on to win the New York Film Festival’s Grand Prize for Best Music Documentary.

Mark later collaborated and performed with Ian Brown of The Stone Roses, co-writing material on the multi-gold-selling solo album Music of the Spheres.

He went on to write and co-produce his own solo project with producer Nigel Godrich (Radiohead, Paul McCartney), releasing Neverland with his band DOG on Heavenly / EMI. The album featured guest appearances by Pete Townshend of The Who, and the track War has since been regularly covered live by The Prodigy. Neverland received strong critical acclaim and found extensive use across film and advertising, a trajectory that naturally led directors to seek him out as a composer.

With a career spanning multiple decades and more than thirty feature films and TV Series, Mark continues to work across film, sound design, and advertising, and is a regular collaborator with photographer-turned-director Rankin. In 2022, he composed the music for national UK television and radio campaigns for the National Health Service, addressing heart attack and cancer awareness.

His music and sound design for the NBA campaign Overcome, featuring Stephen Curry, was nominated for both a CLIO Award and a Jerry Goldsmith Award.

His work in advertising has been recognised with multiple honours, including two New York Advertising Festival awards, a D&AD Pencil, a BTAA Silver Arrow, CLIO Awards for Best Music and Sound Design, and EFFIE France awards for campaigns with Audi, Nike (featuring Ronaldo), Levi’s, the NBA, and Reebok.
